The dutching calculator
Fancy three horses in the same race? Dutching backs all of them with stakes sized so you make the same profit whichever one wins. BetTrading.net does the arithmetic against live prices and places every leg with one confirmation.
Who can use it
Full access — selection tick-boxes, the calculator, and one-confirmation placement of every leg.
Dutching is one of Pro's trading tools. On Basic you can of course still back several selections individually — the calculator's stake-balancing maths is what Pro adds.
Dutching a market
- Open the market and expand the Dutching section in the Market View.
- Tick two or more selections. The status line keeps a running total of what's selected.
- Enter either a total stake to spread, or a target profit to aim for. The calculator shows each leg's stake at the current back prices, the combined outlay, and the equal profit if any selected runner wins.
- Check the summary — the figures move live with the prices until you commit.
- Confirm once. Every leg is placed together through the same pipeline as any other bet, and each appears in Requested Bets individually.
Dutching is not risk-free: if none of your selected runners wins, all legs lose. The more of the market you cover, the smaller the profit and the smaller the chance of a complete miss — that trade-off is yours to choose. Legs are real bets that need to match; in thin markets a leg can rest unmatched like any other bet.
Dutching works best when you can rule runners out — cover the plausible winners and let the no-hopers pay you. Check the combined book percentage: the bigger the overround in your favour, the better the equal-profit figure. And place early in liquid markets so every leg matches at the price the calculator used.
