Getting started
From download to your first bet in a few careful steps. Take it at your own pace — nothing here places a bet until you deliberately do.
1. Install and sign in
- Download BetTrading.net for Windows from your BetTrading.net account page and run the installer. The app keeps itself up to date automatically.
- Start the app. You'll see the sign-in screen — enter the email address and password of your BetTrading.net account (the same one you use on this website). If you don't have an account yet, the Create account link opens the sign-up page.
- Prefer a darker screen? The sun/moon toggle on the sign-in card switches the theme before you even sign in.
Three wrong password attempts locks sign-in for an hour, with a countdown — protection against anyone trying to guess their way in. And once you've signed in, the app keeps working for up to 72 hours even if it can't reach BetTrading.net.
2. Connect your first exchange
Straight after sign-in, BetTrading.net shows the Trading Service Connections screen. The app is a trading screen for your own exchange accounts — so it needs at least one connection before it can show you any markets.
- Click Add.
- Choose your exchange — Betdaq, Smarkets, Matchbook or Betfair. (No exchange account yet? Our exchange guides walk through opening one and getting API access, step by step.)
- Enter your exchange credentials and click Connect. Your password is used to sign in to the exchange and is never stored by BetTrading.net.
- Click Continue. Your first connected exchange automatically becomes your Primary service.
3. Find your way around
You'll land on the main window. Three areas matter on day one:
- The Markets tree (left) — every sport and market on your connected exchanges. Expand a sport, pick a date, pick a venue or competition.
- Services (right) — your balance, available funds and exposure at each connected exchange.
- Requested Bets (right) — every bet you place through the app, live.
4. Place a careful first bet
Open a busy market — a well-backed race or a big football match — by clicking it in the tree. A Market View window opens with a live price chart and the current back and lay prices.
- Watch for a minute. Prices tick up and down as money arrives — this movement is what traders trade.
- Make sure one-click betting is off (it starts off on Basic; the toggle is in the One-Click Betting bar). With it off, nothing places without a confirmation.
- Click a back price on a selection. The Manual Betting dialog opens, pre-filled with that price.
- Set a small stake — the minimum is fine for a first bet — check the odds and the potential profit shown, and confirm.
- Watch your bet appear in Requested Bets. If it matches, you're on. If it doesn't match and you change your mind, Cancel removes it.
Start in big, liquid markets — your bets match at the price you expect. Keep stakes small until the back/lay arithmetic feels natural. And try a Trade Out on a small position early: seeing a locked-in result, win or lose, is the moment exchange trading clicks for most people.
