Matchbook: the honest guide

Not connectable yet — coming soon

BetTrading.net connects Betdaq and Smarkets today, and Matchbook is the next exchange we are adding. This guide is here so you can weigh it against the others before you decide where to open accounts — everything below is accurate, but you cannot trade Matchbook through BetTrading.net just yet.

Matchbook, founded in 2004, made its name on US sports and has grown into a serious racing exchange with sharp pricing and a 2% commission. For developers and tool users it has a unique selling point: the API is open to every customer — no key, no application, no access fee.

What it is, and who it suits

Matchbook targets sharper recreational and professional bettors: strong horse-racing markets, genuine depth on US sports (NFL, NBA, MLB), and competitive football pricing. It suits racing traders wanting a value alternative and anyone trading American sports on an exchange.

Getting API access, step by step

(Process per the Matchbook Developer Centre, checked 9 August 2026.)

  1. Open a Matchbook account at matchbook.com and complete verification (18+, KYC).
  2. That's it — there is no key or application. The API accepts your ordinary account credentials immediately. (This is the lowest barrier to entry of the four exchanges.)
  3. Understand the metering: GET requests are counted per calendar month and billed at £100 per million from your account balance; write requests are free at reasonable frequency. Email api@matchbook.com for usage details or plan upgrades.
  4. Connect in BetTrading.net: add Matchbook on the connections screen with your Matchbook credentials — see Connecting your exchanges.
