Your BetTrading.net account
One account covers everything: it signs you in to the desktop application, it carries your subscription, and it is managed here on the website. This page is about the account itself — for plans and payment, see Subscriptions & billing.
Creating your account
- Register with your email address and a password of at least fifteen characters. You will be asked to confirm you are 18 or over and to accept the Terms of Service.
- Verify your email. We send a verification link to the address you gave. Open it, and your account is ready.
- Sign in — on this website, and in the desktop application with the same credentials.
An unverified account cannot sign in anywhere, and the verification link is only sent by the registration flow. If it has not arrived, check your spam folder first, then register again with the same address — that reissues it. A password reset will not help, because the email check happens first.
Choosing a password
Passwords must be at least fifteen characters. That sounds like a lot until you stop thinking of it as a password: three or four unrelated words — the kind of thing you can picture — is easier to remember than a short one full of symbols, and considerably harder to guess. Spaces are allowed, and so is any character you can type.
There are no rules about capitals, digits or punctuation, on purpose. Those rules push people towards predictable shapes, and attackers know the shapes. What we check instead is length, and whether the password you have chosen already appears in a public breach.
If you see this, it does not mean your account was affected, or that anyone has your details. It means that exact password appears somewhere in the billions of credentials leaked from other companies over the years — which is the first list an attacker tries. We check without ever sending your password anywhere: only the first five characters of a one-way fingerprint leave your session, and the comparison happens on our side. Choose a different password and you are done.
Changing your password
Sign in, open your account page, and use Change beside Password. You will need your current password as well as the new one — that is what stops someone who finds an unlocked computer from taking the account over.
Changing it signs you out everywhere, on every device, including the browser you changed it in. Sign in again with the new password; the desktop application will ask for it the next time you sign in there. We also email you whenever it changes, so an unexpected message is your signal that something is wrong.
If you cannot sign in at all, use Forgot password? on the sign-in screen instead. It emails you a one-time link to set a new one.
Showing what you type
Every password box has an eye icon inside it, at the right-hand end. Press it to show what you have typed, and press it again to hide it. It is worth using on a long passphrase — a mistyped password at sign-in counts as a failed attempt, and several in a row pause sign-in for a while. The box always starts hidden, and re-hides when you submit the form.
What you can change on your account page
Sign in and open your account page.
- Country — optional. It is what decides the tax applied to a Pro subscription.
- Product analytics — opt out of the usage data the desktop application records to help us decide what to improve. This is a per-account setting and it applies wherever you sign in.
- Website cookies — a separate choice, covering this website in this browser. Your current decision is shown on the account page, and it is changed under Cookie Policy.
- Your data — export a copy of everything held against your account, or close the account entirely.
Cookie consent covers this website in this browser. The analytics opt-out covers the desktop application's usage data and follows your account everywhere. They sit under different lawful bases, so changing one deliberately does not change the other — each control says what it covers and where the other one lives.
Exporting your data
From your account page you can download a copy of the data held against your account. It covers your profile, your subscription history, your consent records and the product analytics attributed to you.
Closing your account
Closing is permanent and is done from your account page. Your profile and everything attributed to you is erased; any active subscription is cancelled at the same time. If you want a copy of your data, export it before you close.
Closing your BetTrading.net account does not touch your exchange accounts — those are with Betdaq, Smarkets, Matchbook or Betfair and are closed with them.
Your BetTrading.net account is separate from your exchange accounts — your money and your bets live at the exchange, never with us. BetTrading.net never holds your funds; deposits and withdrawals always happen at your exchange.
